WHERE'S THE PORK? LOOK AT DICK.

H.R. 1591 which has been criticized as pork barreling, while not a shining moment for democrats, lavishes extra money on military and veterans health care, the war in Afghanistan, aviation, border and port security, Gulf Coast hurricane relief assistance and levee repairs, agricultural assistance and fire suppression. $25 million to bail out spinach farmers buffeted by an E. coli recall and $74 million for peanut storage.   This is nowhere near the extent of the screwing of America by the Bush machine.  Here's a link to H.R. 1591:  http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d110:HR01591:@@@L&summ2=m&

A look at how Dick Cheney alone has been doing as a stockholder and "former" CEO in Halliburton should tell us quite a bit about  motives in the Iraq war.   According to a CBS News report, Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) asserts that Cheney's stock options -- worth $241,498 a year ago -- are now valued at more than $8 million.

In 2002, Cheney's total assets were valued at between $19.1 million and $86.4 million. And that's before Cheney's Halliburton stock options rose 3,281% in 2005. Given the assured shiftiness of the Cheney accounting team and the windfall sure to follow after he leaves office, we cannot possibly calculate just how much this war has profited Cheney personally-to say nothing of the huge benefits it has brought those of his ilk.

Yet Cheney still has the audacity to stand before a powerful "American" lobby and tell us that his war profiteers need more money! "

And this from a Cleveland father of an American soldier regarding Halliburton.

My son was in Iraq for 16 months as a member of "our troops." His food supply was so erratic that his 6-foot-1-inch frame dwindled to 135 pounds. His unit was forced to buy water from a local Iraqi. This water frequently was found to contain decaying lizard carcasses.

Please excuse military families if we do not share your appreciation for Halliburton, which admitted in court to overcharging me, the American taxpayer, millions of dollars, while my son was in a war zone with little food and water.
