I JOIN THE POETS...FOR A ONE-NIGHT STAND
I usually stay off the internet when I should be sleeping, but one particular long, sleepless night I stumbled onto a poetry site. It loomed from the ghostly glow and took me back to a time long ago when sentimental poetry would flow from me like my adolescent tears.
I set up my page and filled it up that night...I was inspired. My ramblings were sheer genius, but few of the poets on the site took notice, except for one very young man who said that my poem about death was the most "intreging" he had ever seen. Four poems were retched from my soul that night, and then I was spent...my career was over.
I read poetry occasionally...the straightforward kind. I like a metaphor as well as the next person, but give it to me straight is what I say. It's not surprising that two of my favorite poets (and prose writers) are Langston Hughes and Charles Bukowski. Bukowski said it best, “Genius might be the ability to say a profound thing in a simple way.” He also said:
And from Langston Hughes:

the junkyards fill
the madhouses fill
the hospitals fill
the graveyards fill
nothing else
fills. "

And from Langston Hughes:
"Let America be America again.
Let it be the dream it used to be.
Let it be the pioneer on the plain
Seeking a home where he himself is free.
(America never was America to me.)"

Now that's poetry.
