Goodwill Hunting

I bought a rocking glider at Goodwill today although I didn't go there with that intention.  That's what I like about thrift stores, they are full of surprises.  The chair is like new and the cushions are serene hunter green.  However, since my office is still carpeted in the periwinkle blue that was most likely fashionable when the room was my daughter's,  I covered it with a cow throw that also must have been fashionable then.

The chair looked forlorn and abandoned there among all the others.  I wondered if it had rocked and comforted a child and given a young mother needed respite as she sang a lullaby, or if it had eased the ache of a grandmother as she knitted and hummed a hymn.  I do hear something when I rock... and read... and the room is very quiet.

This is the way our home has been furnished--not with thrift store furniture, that's a new concept--but with items gathered here and there that I liked for one reason or another. I always thought that one day I would toss everything out and start over.  Urban modern would be nice, but since I'm neither urban nor modern it doesn't seem likely.
