12-Step Program For Internet Addicts
  1. I will have actual chats with my spouse like I used to do.
  2. I will eat with a knife and fork, not with one hand typing and scrolling.
  3. I will read that stack of library books I keep renewing.
  4. I will wash my clothes instead of looking for my cleanest dirty shirt.
  5. I will write letters to those unfortunate few friends who are web-deprived.
  6. I will call someone on the phone whom I cannot contact via email.
  7. I will go back to my exercise regimen--or at least spend less time on my....chair.
  8. I will not apologize if I miss posting the blog for a day or two.
  9. I will not use TV commercials to check for email.
  10. I will get out of the house at least once a week, whether it is necessary or not.
  11. I will pay my bills;  creditors won't accept my “I was too busy on the internet” excuse.
  12. I will remember that I must go to bed sometime… the computer will always be there tomorrow!
I never thought of my computer as an addiction until I noticed recently how much my exercising has dropped off.  And I spend much less time with family.  But I really think family is overrated.
